This new study investigated the associations between energy drink consumption, sleep and food choices in adolescents π
Key Findings
π Overall, 57% of adolescents (17 - 18 yrs) reported consuming energy drinks
πββοΈ Higher rates were observed in girls (63%) vs boys (48%)
π€ Energy drink consumers were more likely to sleep less than 6 hrs per night
β° Especially when consumed after 15:00 daily
Adolescents who consumed energy drinks also ate less nutritious foods (e.g. fruits, vegetables, dairy, fish) β οΈ
β¦and consumed significantly more soft drinks, coffee and alcohol π»
